6 Things to Know Before Starting a Blog in 2021

Does the idea of starting a blog in 2021 excite you? Do you feel you have something to write about? Starting a blog with little or no experience can be daunting.

Are you wondering what you have to do to make it in 2021? Is it even worth it to start blogging in 2021? Yes, blogging is worth it, and as you’ll see soon if done right, blogging can be lucrative.

Don’t get it twisted, starting a blog is hard work, it requires a lot of effort and perseverance. Whether you’re writing for fun or as a means of making money, you’ll need a considerable amount of dedication to make it work. And that is why I’ve come up with these tips to guide you on your blogging journey.

Here are steps to start a blog:

1. Choose a Niche

If you don’t already have what to write about you need to research a suitable niche. Look out for competitive niches that will not be too difficult to break into. As much as you want to choose a lucrative niche, ensure it is a niche you like or are willing to know about. This will ensure you don’t get bored along the way.

If you already have a niche you still need to research your market and competitors. This will make you better ready for the task.

2. Select the Right Platform and a Suitable Domain name

When starting, you get to select the platform you want your blog to be on. It can be medium, WordPress, or any of the several others available.

Choosing the right platform is the bedrock to a successful blog. Read their terms and conditions to be sure it grants you the freedom to control your blog and there are very minimal restrictions.

You also want to select a good hosting platform. The importance of a good hosting platform cannot be quantified. In this situation, free is not advisable as most free hosting platforms have almost total control over your blog and you can lose your contents forever if they decide to shut you down.

The last line of platform setup is choosing a suitable domain name. You want to select a domain that is easy to remember, unique and relevant to your niche.

3. Blogging is Not the Easiest Way to Make Money

With several bloggers making a lot of money from their blogs it may seem like blogging is an easy route to money and you may not be farther away from the truth.

Although there may be a good number of success stories, even a few that started making a lot of money after just a couple of months of starting their blogs, you should bear in mind that this is not the norm.

This will keep you grounded on the task at hand and not only focused on the money. It is advised to just focus on putting out the best and enjoying yourself. If the money comes sooner, great!

4. Put Out Great Contents

The statement “content is king” holds even more water when it comes to blogging. Consistently putting out super content will make your blog popular sooner or later. It’s difficult to stay hidden for long when your content is great.

Great content should be unique, highly researched, and properly written, why else will your audience choose to read from your blog and not your competitors?

5. Build Relationships

Blogging is a social activity; it involves a lot of interaction. Interaction with your audience, replying to comments on your blog, interacting with other bloggers, providing guest posts on other blogs among other things will help you build stronger relationships and a loyal audience.

Spend time interacting with your audience and providing useful tips when needed.

6. Optimize Your Blog for Social Media

With the rise of social media, it would be foolish not to make your blog social media-friendly. Let users share your content on social media, create social media profiles for your blog and share your blog posts there.

If you optimize your blog for social media and consistently drop amazing content, you’ll begin to see massive traffic from social media.

Summary

These tips will make your blogging journey easier and shorten your learning process. It can also help you avoid the common pitfalls new bloggers make and better position you to succeed.
