Facebook – where do we even begin? From dodgy tax practices to misinformation and controversies surrounding user privacy, Facebook has quite the rap sheet at this point, making them pretty untrustworthy in the face of it all.

We hardly need a reason to take some time off of using it, and neither do you. If you’ve been looking for a way to get off Facebook for a while, let’s talk about it. Here’s how to delete your Facebook account.

There are two different ways to delete your Facebook account – you can do so permanently, or you can temporarily disable it. One thing to note is that Facebook delays account deletion for a few days once it’s been requested, so if you log in during this time, your request for deletion will be canceled.

Once your account has been deleted, you can’t gain access to Facebook again, and it can take up to 90 days for any data they have shelved away to be deleted, too.

If you don’t want to take this route, you can choose to deactivate your Facebook account. This is a great way to take a bit of a break from Facebook, and it means that people won’t be able to see your profile or look you up in the search bar.

However, please note that some of your information might still be visible to others. Facebook will save your account, just in case you want to reactivate it again.

Lastly, if you’re worried about your privacy on Facebook, there are things that you can do to combat this as well.

Deleting Your Facebook Account Permanently

If you’re convinced that you want to permanently get rid of your Facebook account, click here for the ‘delete account’ option.

Before you get rid of your account completely, though, you might want to download any data you want to keep. Click on the ‘download info’ button, and your file will start to download.

Deactivating Your Facebook Account

If you want just to deactivate your Facebook account, for the time being, click this link and then follow the appropriate steps to confirm this. If you want to bring it back again, all you have to do is log in to your account again, and your profile will be good to go.

Scary, Right?

This is your personal data that ANYONE can view.

The only way to protect yourself fully is with a VPN. A proxy can provide some protection, but a VPN is a more complete solution and will ensure your privacy.

We recommend this VPN, or this proxy.

Final Thoughts on Deleting Facebook

So, there you have it – how to delete or deactivate your Facebook account. If you think it’s time to finally unplug yourself from the machine and experience life on the other side, we highly recommend one of these two options.

Enjoy life without the burden that Facebook often brings with it. Happy social media detoxing!
